Home Based Support Services
One way that Orchard Villages supports children and adults who live at home is through the Home Based Support Services (HBSS) Program. The HBSS program is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services. The program offers grant funds with which individuals can purchase services that will allow them to maintain home living and reach personal goals. Each individual enrolled in the HBSS program must have a service facilitation agency. Orchard Village is a service facilitation agency and accepts both Children and Adult HBSS recipients throughout the year.
Some of the services provided under the HBSS program include:
- Personal Support (Orchard Village uses both the agency model and the consumer directed model for personal support workers)
- Developmental Training, Adults Day Care and Supported Employment
- Nursing
- Training and Counseling for Unpaid Caregivers
- Behavioral Intervention and Behavior Counseling
- Adaptive Equipment, Assistive Technology, Vehicle Modifications and Home Accessibility Modifications
- Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy
Respite Services
Some adults and children with disabilities reside with their families at home. The Orchard Village In-Home Respite Care Program was created to support these families and individuals. We offer respite for parents, siblings and caregivers, providing them a much-needed opportunity to relax, recharge and attend to their other obligations. Staff members that are matched with specific families make regular visits to provide support, instruction, and quality care that best meets the needs of the family. Respite staff also initiate social/recreational activities and individualized training in academics and living skills for the person with the disability. In the words of one respite client, "they truly became part of our family."
